VIEWPOINT

Bill Bouknight, in Collected Sermons, speaks of the impala.

The impala is an African antelope with a supercharged spring.

It has a vertical leap of over ten feet and can broad jump over thirty feet. You would think that the zoos of the world would find it impossible to keep such an animal enclosed. Not so!

It’s rather easy, because the experts discovered something about the impala:  it will not jump unless it can see where it is going to land. Therefore, a solid wall even six feet tall is a sufficient enclosure.

Lots of Christians have the impala’s problem.  They won’t jump into any new work unless they have all the answers in advance about where that decision will take them.  But God is looking for some bold believers who, even in the face of the unknown, will leap when the Bible says jump.

“Launch out into the deep” (Luke 5:4).

(Thanks to Alan Henderson who gave me the article about Impala Christians.)

TAKE TWO:  Several comments have been made recently in our assemblies that need repeated emphasis.  For example:

“God called Abraham ‘Father’ before he actually was a father.  Likewise, God calls us ‘saints’ before we start acting with spiritual maturity” (Alan Henderson).

“We are most likely to fall to temptation immediately after we have passed up an opportunity to do something good” (Alfred Donald).

“Paul the Apostle experienced two extremes during the storm and shipwreck – first no one trusted his advice; later everybody listed to him and even called him a ‘god.’ So we shouldn’t be too concerned about human evaluations” (Jimmy Pulliam).

I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile, and a positive word!                                                           RA

    FROM THE MAILBAG

Dear Cedar Grove Family,

As wonderful as everyone has been to Ben since he started attending worship with me, it hasn’t been easy for either of us to worship with the same family where Bob and I raised our family.  There are many Sundays where I see Bob as plain as day up front leading songs, and it is difficult to control my emotions (from missing him).  It has not been an easy decision, but Ben and I thought it best to find a new congregation that would know us as Mr. and Mrs. Ben McElroy.   I miss y’all, but I think the move is the best for us and our new life together.  Cedar Grove will be in our prayers, and good Lord willing, we’ll have opportunity to visit from time to time.

I love you.

       Your sister in Christ,

       Jill McElroy

Dear Friends at Cedar Grove,

I wanted to write a personal request in hopes you could help my family. I am asking anyone and everyone to put Mykala on their personal and church prayer list. We are having some major issues and have nowhere but the Lord to turn to for the wisdom and power we need to help Mykala. We need you to pray that God guide us to the right doctors so she can get the help she needs. I know he can do anything and the more people we have helping by praying on her/ our behalf, the better. Thank you for your influence in my life and your help with this now.

               Sincerely,

              Tina (Bradberry) Harrison

Dear Cedar Grove,

Thank you so much for the monogrammed NIV Bible.  I look forward to the opportunities to put it to good use.  Most of all, thank you for sharing this special time and thinking of me as I begin this new, exciting phase of my life.  Cedar Grove will always hold a special place within my heart and I think of you often.

               Much love,

               Bailey Scott

               God Bless!
