THE HEIGHTENER

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you."  -James 4:10

VIEWPOINT
Have you ever thought about the abbreviation A.S.A.P.?
Generally we think of it in terms of even more hurry and
stress in our lives.  Maybe if we think of this abbreviation
in a different manner, we will begin to find a new way to
deal with those rough days along the way.
There's work to do, deadlines to meet;
You've got no time to spare,
But as you hurry and scurry
A.S.A.P. – ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER.
 In the midst of family chaos,
“Quality time” is rare.
Do your best; let God do the rest:
A.S.A.P. – ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER.

It may seem like your worries
Are more than you can bear.
Slow down and take a breather;
A.S.A.P. – ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER.

God knows how stressful life is;
He wants to ease our cares,
And He'll respond to all your needs.
A.S.A.P. – ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER.

Prayer is one of the best gifts we receive.  There is no
cost but a lot of rewards, so let's continue to pray for one
another.

The slogan above and the verses with it were just relayed to me by Cheryl Putman.  I hope they help all of us keep the perspective.

When the power cord on our portable computer went out recently, we learned how much we’ve come to depend on the projected images for illustrations and outlines in sermons and Bible classes.

“PowerPoint” is just the name of the computer program that allows us to project slides to the screen.  It’s really  just an up  to date way  to do the same things we used to do with charts and overhead projectors.  I am thankful that we’ve been able to use the technology in a positive way (Mt. 10:16).

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:  “A man who wants to do something will find a way; a man who doesn't will find an excuse” (Stephen Dolley, Jr.).

--------------

As we prepared for the marriage ceremony with the Cannon family Saturday, I remembered a humorous story:  A young boy was asked to serve as an usher at a wedding.  He was quickly coached in protocol, and a veteran usher instructed him to ask the person he was escorting,  “Are you a guest of the bride or groom?” to know where to seat them.

Imagine the surprise of the first arrival who heard him ask, as he graciously offered his arm to her, “Madam, whose side are you on?”

We want to make sure we’re on God’s side, of course!  I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile and a positive word.                                                                                                                         RA

BE STILL AND KNOW

Be still and know that God is near

Wherever you may be;

You cannot go beyond God’s reach;

He hears the faintest plea.

He knows the problems that you face,

The hurt you’re going through.

Because you are His own dear child,

He wants what’s best for you.

He holds the future in His hands,

He sees what lies ahead,

And He will safely guide you through

This time that you now dread.

O weary one, know that God is near,

Trust in His will and way.

He is waiting there to help you…

He’s just a prayer away.
