VIEWPOINT

Here’s a story I noticed in the South Cobb Sower by Tommy Tidwell.

The man never opened the door for his wife, or any other woman.  He reasoned, “God gave her two arms; she can open the door as well as I can.”

After many years of marriage, his wife died. Her husband was truly heartbroken, because, despite his gruffness and lack of manners, he truly loved her. As the pallbearers left the funeral home with her casket, somehow, the funeral director and the husband made it to the hearse in front of the casket.

The funeral director called the husband by name, and said, “Open the door for her, will you?” As the man reached for the door handle, for one split second, he froze. He realized that he had never opened the door for her once in their lives together. Now in death would be the one and only time. It was a moment in which years of regret came crashing down.

The lessons:

If you love someone – tell them now. More importantly, show them now.  Our Lord stresses the fact that telling someone you love them is important, but showing them you love them is even more important. How often do we tell others we love the Lord, but fail to show our love by our actions? Truly, our actions speak so much louder than our words when it comes to this.

If you have something to do for someone – do it now. None of us know when we will pass from this earth, and none of us know when someone we love will pass from this earth. In 2 Corinthians 6:2, Paul stresses to the Corinthians that today is the accepted time of salvation, and they needed to avail themselves of the opportunities as it presented itself. In like manner, NOW is the time to do what needs to be done for that loved one or for the Lord.

One day, we all will have that one last chance. Do you know when “your last chance” will be?  May I encourage you to “DO IT NOW?”
