VIEWPOINT

Great opportunities come seldom; little opportunities cluster around us.”  That statement was one of many encouraging words by Max Johnson as he spoke to the congregation at Cedar Grove last Sunday.  Max and Opal wanted to visit to give personal thanks to our church family for the 14 years of support during their work with “Let’s Start Talking” ministry.  It’s been a blessing to have that ongoing fellowship.

---------------

Recently Paula sent me this article.  It might make us think about our habits!

Diary Of A Bible

JANUARY:  A busy time for me. Most of the family decided to read me through this year. They kept me busy for the first two weeks, but they have forgotten me now.

FEBRUARY: Clean-up time. I was dusted yesterday and put in my place.  My owner did use me for a few minutes last week.  He had been in an argument and was looking up some references to prove he was right.

MARCH:  Had a busy day first of the month. My owner was elected president of the PTA and used me to prepare a speech.

APRIL:  Grandpa visited us this month.  He kept me on his lap for an hour reading from 1 Peter 5:5-7.  He seems to think more of me than do some people in my own household.

MAY:  I have a few green stains on my pages. Some spring flowers were pressed in my pages.

JUNE:  I look like a scrapbook. They have stuffed me full of newspaper clippings – one of the girls got married.

JULY:  They put me in a suitcase today. I guess we are off on vacation.  I wish I could stay home; I know I'll be closed up in this thing for at least two weeks.

AUGUST:  Still in the suitcase.

SEPTEMBER:  Back home at last and in my old familiar place.  I have a lot of company.  Two women's magazines and four comic books are stacked on top of me.  I wish I could be read as much as they are.

OCTOBER:  They read me a little bit today.  One of them is very sick.  Right now I am sitting in the center of the coffee table.  I think the minister is coming by for a visit.

NOVEMBER:  Back in my old place.  Somebody asked today if I were a scrapbook.

DECEMBER:  The family is busy getting ready for the holidays.  I guess I'll be covered up under wrapping paper and packages again . . . just as I am every Christmas.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile and a positive word!                                                                      RA

If Christ Is Your Master

If Christ is your Master,

Then why is your life a disaster?

If Christ is your Master,

For what do you seek, what are you after?

Is Christ your Master?

Do you seek this life or the hereafter?

If Christ be your Master,

Why don’t you seek a greener pasture?

Let Christ be your master and guide;

He’s always there by your side.

What is your taskmaster’s name?

And what is his game?

Where and with whom will you spend Eternity?

Reminder!  It NEVER ends; it’s infinity!

I cannot describe the (infinite) beauty I see,

But I can tell you this:  if Christ is your Master,

And faithful we be, “Heaven”

Will be our home for ETERNITY!

    FROM THE MAILBAG

    Dear Cedar Grove Family,

As I think back over the past 3 weeks of the cards, calls, visits, and prayers, a simple "Thank You" just doesn't seem like enough.

Having been a part of the Cedar Grove family for over twenty years, your acts of love and kindness come as no surprise.

Annie and I are blessed in many ways.  Certainly, being a part of the Cedar Grove family is one of those blessings. Thank you all for everything.

In Christian Love,

                                   Tom Raines

            BRIDAL SHOWER

All ladies of the congregation are invited to a Bridal shower honoring Ginny Cannon on Sunday, February 5 at 3:00 in the fellowship room.

ENCOURAGEMENT

Grace Denton's son, Chip, is now working in Baghdad, Iraq.  For those who would like to send him notes of encouragement,  his email address is available.

OUR SICK

Jeri Maddox' father is in the hospital in Florida.

Rebecca O'Brien's aunt, Beverly Waters, is recovering from surgery last week.

Izabella Bunch was sick Sudnay.

Continue to remember Evelyn Bohannon, Nell Peters, J. W. and Vivian Raines, Richard and Joyce Smith, and Geneva White.

A little boy came home from Sunday School and could not remember the name of his new teacher.  "But she was Jesus' grandmother," he added, startling his parents.

"How do you know that?"

"Why," he explained reasonable enough "she talked about Him all the time and she kept showing us those big pictures of him!"
